             Beauceron is a breed of dog which is used for herding, which originates from central France.                 Beauceron breed of dogs is also called Berger de Beauce.  

●        History: 

       Beaucerons dog breed is a French breed which originates from the plains called the la beauce. This breed of dogs was initially used as farm dog so that it can protect the sheeps and cattle's but after sometime they started using this breed also as a guard dog.

As a working breed: This breed of dogs is used to herd sheep, are used as guards and was proved to be very beneficial against the wolves. This breed worked as a transporter dog, messenger dog, and as detection dog in the world war. This breed of dogs is also used in searching and rescuing work.

●        Appearance: 

      This breed has a height of about 60 to 70 cm, and they weigh around 30 to 40 kg. Their outer-coat is hard, and their undercoat is woolly which becomes thick in the cool weather specifically when the dog sleeps out.

The standard color of this breed is either tan, black, or grey called Merle. Other colors are banned by the breed standard.

Merle coats are blacker as compared to white and grey. Those dogs that are tan and black, have dots above eyes, it fades off on the cheeks, but these dots do not reach the ears.

This breed of dogs might or might not have dewclaws, which is known to be an important feature. Some of the Beaucerons have a double dewclaw. When the Beauceron is shown it needs to have two dewclaws that is separated properly with nails on each leg; if they do not have even a single thing then they will be disqualified.

When it is about grooming, Beauceron is a very relaxed keeper because of his double, short coat. All you need is to give a bath properly to the dog after almost every 3 to 4 months.

This breed of dogs shed a little amount every year and it gets heavier in the season of fall and spring. In these seasons this breed of dogs need more brushing so that the amount of hair fall can be controlled all around your house.

●        Temperament:

      Beauceron is known as a helper around farms, is used as a guard and a ring sport dog. This breed of dog is athletic, long lived and is bred in a way that it is gentle, fearless, calm and intelligent. The adult dogs are very curious and are extra careful when they see strangers around, that’s why they are great guard dogs. Conversely, they regularly take signal from the people that are handling them when it comes to welcoming the strangers and are not very shy and not too sharp.

When they are trained properly and raised properly then they perform the best as a family dog and along with it if they sleep outside, they also become the best guards. They can be trained to a very high level and are enthusiastic learners. Yet, their mental and their physical development is very slow as compared to other breeds of dogs.

These dogs do not mature, neither mentally or physically until the age of 2 or 3 years so you should never rush while you are training them. 

Beaucerons can compete in dog nimbleness trials, acquiescence, dramatic skill, fly-ball,

following, and herding occasions.

Herding intuitive and train-ability can be easily measured at herding tests that are noncompetitive. Beaucerons showing essential herding intuitive can be

prepared to compete in herding tests. They are great searching and protecting dogs.

●        Health problems in Beaucerons:

There are a few health problems that are common in the Beaucerons. These are

osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia and a common condition of heart called cardiomyopathy.

There is one other condition that is common in this breed which is retinal atrophy.

This breed of dog might also be prone to different allergies, and a gastric torsion which is

also called bloating. These are also found in other breeds, but these are more common in the

Beaucerons.
